Lent Devotional - Day 30

Read John 15:18-27.

In the life of every believer, there will come a point where we cross the line and the world will not love us. Many of us try so hard to fit in and do all we can to be accepted by the world, but Jesus tells it plainly that we do not belong to the world.

As followers of Jesus, where he wants to take us and what he wants to do with us is not at all compatible with the values and goals of this world. As you suffer persecution and experience hardship, remember what Jesus went through. Again let Jesus be the example we follow and the person we turn to in times of need.

Jesus has chosen us out of the world and that is why the believers are called the elect. It is by the grace of God we can know Jesus and turn to him. It is by the grace of God that we can believe and the love of God makes sense to us. There are many in the world that are blinded to it and no matter how hard you explain it to them, they just can’t understand.

So don’t take your election lightly. Don’t assume what you know about Jesus is basic and common. It is a weighty thing to have been chosen by God. Rejoice and be glad. Worship Jesus with thanksgiving and praise for he has taken you from darkness to light, and from death to life.

Let us then walk with boldness and courage, knowing that we have been chosen. Let us walk in step with the Holy Spirit and let our lives be a testimony of Jesus’ goodness and faithfulness.
